{"id":9509,"date":"2023-10-27T20:19:28","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T14:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/farratanews.online\/dwp-issues-full-list-of-medical-conditions-that-qualify-for-518-a-month-personal-finance-finance\/"},"modified":"2023-10-27T20:19:28","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T14:49:28","slug":"dwp-issues-full-list-of-medical-conditions-that-qualify-for-518-a-month-personal-finance-finance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farratanews.online\/dwp-issues-full-list-of-medical-conditions-that-qualify-for-518-a-month-personal-finance-finance\/","title":{"rendered":"DWP issues full list of medical conditions that qualify for \u00a3518 a month | Personal Finance | Finance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Around 1.7 million people in the UK claiming New Style Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) can benefit from an extra \u00a3518 a month.<\/p>\n<p>The benefit, which is administered by the Department for Work and Pensions, offers a lifeline for those with certain disabilities or health conditions that affect how much they can work.<\/p>\n<p>Claimants can get a payment fortnightly which is available on its own or alongside Universal Credit.<\/p>\n<p>People can apply for &#8216;new-style&#8217; ESA if they are below state pension age and they work as an employee or have been self-employed and paid enough National Insurance contributions \u2013 normally in the last two to three years.<\/p>\n<p>It is not available for those who get jobseeker&#8217;s allowance or statutory sick pay, but it is possible to get it if someone receives Universal Credit at the same time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>There are a range of medical conditions that could mean someone is eligible for ESA.<\/p>\n<p>According to DWP data, there are 23 groups of medical conditions that could make someone eligible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Certain infectious and parasitic diseases<\/li>\n<li>Neoplasms<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the blood and blood forming organs and certain diseases involving the immune mechanism<\/li>\n<li>Endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic diseases<\/li>\n<li>Mental and behavioural disorders<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the nervous system<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the eye and adnexa<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the ear and mastoid process<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the circulatory system<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the respiratory system<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the digestive system<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous system<\/li>\n<li>Disease of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue<\/li>\n<li>Diseases of the genito-urinary system<\/li>\n<li>Pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium<\/li>\n<li>Certain conditions originating in the perinatal period<\/li>\n<li>Congenital malformations, deformations, and chromosomal abnormalities<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms, signs, and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings not elsewhere classified<\/li>\n<li>Injury, poisoning, and certain other consequences of external causes<\/li>\n<li>External causes of morbidity and mortality<\/li>\n<li>Factors influencing health status and contact with health services<\/li>\n<li>Codes for special purposes<\/li>\n<li>Unknown or claimants without diagnosis on the system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It should be noted that this isn\u2019t an exclusive list. If someone has a condition or disability which affects their ability to work then they will still be able to put in a claim for new style ESA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>How does one apply for ESA?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People can apply for ESA online or by phone.<\/p>\n<p>To apply each person will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>their National Insurance number<\/li>\n<li>their bank or building society account number and sort code (you can use a friend or family member\u2019s account if you do not have one)<\/li>\n<li>their doctor\u2019s name, address, and telephone number<\/li>\n<li>a fit note (sometimes called a \u2018sick note\u2019 or a \u2018statement of fitness for work\u2019) if you\u2019ve not been able to work for more than seven days in a row because of a disability or health condition<\/li>\n<li>details of income if they\u2019re working<\/li>\n<li>the date their statutory sick pay (SSP) ends if they\u2019re claiming it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Successful claimants will be over 16 and have worked as an employee, either part-time or full, or been self-employed and paid enough National Insurance contributions to qualify, although National Insurance credits also count.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>They will need to have two full years of National Insurance contributions out of the last three tax years to get the money &#8211; unless they are a full time student.<\/p>\n<p>To claim new style ESA their medical condition or disability must make it difficult for them to work and they must be classed as having &#8220;limited capability for work&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This means people will need to have their medical condition or disability confirmed by their health practitioner &#8211; such as a doctor, nurse etc &#8211; and they must provide them with a &#8220;fit note&#8221; which provides the date when they first had limited capability for work.<\/p>\n<p>Once they\u2019ve applied they\u2019ll be contacted by phone and told when to give the evidence and where to send it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Individuals normally get the \u2018assessment rate\u2019 for 13 weeks while their claim is being assessed.<\/p>\n<p>This will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>up to \u00a367.20 a week if they\u2019re aged under 25<\/li>\n<li>up to \u00a384.80 a week if they\u2019re aged 25 or over<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During this period, the DWP will assess people and put them in either the &#8220;work-related activity group&#8221; or the &#8220;support group&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Those in the Work-related activity group will get\u00a384.80 each week and those in the support group will get \u00a3129.50 each week<\/p>\n<p>People in the support group will be paid \u00a3518 a month and if they are placed in the work-related activity group you will receive \u00a3339 a month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>An individual&#8217;s payments are affected by other aspects such as pensions.
