The Exorcist producer Jason Blum isn’t scared of much, but there is one thing that does frighten him, Taylor Swift.

Blum, founder of Blumhouse, has helped make some of the scariest movies in the Hollywood, including Insidious and The Purge, and has now produced a sequel to The Exorcist, which shocked fans 50 years ago in 1973.

However, the Bad Blood singer is his worst nightmare because she was the reason he had to change the release date of The Exorcist: Believer, the most anticipated horror film of the year.

It was supposed to hit theaters on October 13 – a coveted date for horror films – that is, until Swift announced that her Eras Tour film would be out on the same day.

So, Blum opted to change the release to avoid the tour film dominating the screens, with the flick now releasing on October 6.

The tour isn’t the only thing we’re taking worldwide……..

On Twitter/X, Blum jokingly blamed Swift for forcing his hand.

“Look what you made me do!” he quipped, referencing one of Swift’s most popular singles, and added the hashtag “#taylorwins” as a humorous dig at her Midnights hit.

Swift’s Eras Tour is steadily becoming one of the biggest music tours of all time, generating over $2 billion in revenue once it’s over.

So, if the tour is so popular, the film will surely rival it. The Eras Tour film has already had a huge effect on the film industry.

Millions more fans will get the chance to see the three-hour performance, and they’ve already crashed sites like Ticketmaster to buy pre-sale tickets for sold-out screenings.

Blum didn’t want to give his film and the tour movie the chance to battle it out for being the most successful.

It would’ve been another Oppenheimer/Barbie war.

Now, Blum has opened up about his decison to change The Exorcist’s release date in an interview with Entertainment Tonight (per Fox).

Blum said: “We had this amazing Friday the 13th in October, which is the single best day to release a scary movie. Obviously, we moved off that and we bowed our head to Taylor Swift. It was too risky to see if ‘Exorswift’ was going to take or not. People will still have the ‘Exorswift’ opportunity, so maybe we got to have our cake and eat it too.”

When Swift made the surprise announcement in August that the Eras Tour would premiere on Oct. 13, Blum immediately suggested a “Barbieheimer, type of theatergoing experience with “Exorswift” on his social media.

However, he quickly decided he didn’t want to compete against the singer on in his opening weekend.

“The one thing that scares me to death is Taylor Swift!” he jokingly told ET.

Swift’s Eras tour has become a cultural phenomenon, so it’s easy to see how it could scare all projects, music related or otherwise, in its way.

[ad_2]
