It may mean difficulties with affording rising energy bills, which are set to soar even higher this winter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Those who are finding it difficult to afford their bills or top up their prepayment meter could be entitled to support.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens Advice has explained Britons could \u201ctake advantage\u201d of certain benefits and grants offered by both energy supplier and the Government.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, individuals can get \u00a3150 back from their local council in a council tax rebate.<\/p>\n<p>The rebate was introduced by the Government as a way to help people with the rising cost of energy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/finance\/personalfinance\/1641120\/Halifax-scam-warning-Amazon-phone-call-press-one-UK-2022\" data-name=\"\u2018They steal your money!\u2019 Halifax issues alert on vicious Amazon scam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018They steal your money!\u2019 Halifax issues alert on vicious Amazon scam<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"text-description\">\n<p>The money is not paid to individuals, and instead serves as a one-off discount between October and March.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals do not need to apply, and can expect a letter later this year detailing what the scheme involves.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Winter Fuel Payment could provide help with the cost of energy for older people.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible people born on or before September 25, 1956 could get between \u00a3250 and \u00a3600 to help pay heating bills.<\/p>\n<p>The amount people get includes a one-off pensioner cost of living payment worth between \u00a3150 and \u00a3300 being issued this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Citizens Advice explains some people may be able to get a fuel voucher to help them pay for their energy.<\/p>\n<p>This is if a person either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uses a prepayment meter<\/li>\n<li>Does not use gas or electricity for heating<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A fuel voucher is given as a code in a letter, text message or email and a person can then use it to add credit to their gas card or electricity key.<\/p>\n<p>A number of energy suppliers also offer grants to help people pay off debt, including British Gas, Scottish Power, Ovo, Octopus, EON, Bulb and EDF.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens Advice added: \u201cIf you can\u2019t get a grant from your supplier, you might be able to get a grant from the British Gas Energy Trust.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese grants are available to anyone &#8211; you don\u2019t have to be a British Gas customer.
