Financial goals set at the start of the year have already fallen by the wayside \u2013 as motivation wanes to see them through, research has found. A poll of 2,000 adults found that over half (56 percent) set themselves money-related goals for this year \u2013 but 67 percent of those have given up after just four months.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
One in five (21 percent) were determined to get their money in a better shape at the start of the year \u2013 alongside becoming fitter, spending more time with family and friends, and travelling more.<\/p>\n
However, 43 percent expect their resolutions not to go to plan this year \u2013 with 16 percent putting this down to setting unrealistic goals, while one in 10 blame laziness. Lack of motivation, and too many distractions, are other reasons for failing to achieve self-imposed targets.<\/p>\n
The research was commissioned by NatWest, which has teamed up with athletes including Sir Chris Hoy, Max Whitlock, and Beth Shriever, to record a motivational \u201cteam talk for the nation\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sir Chris Hoy said: \u201cAs a professional athlete, I know first-hand the significant role motivation plays in achieving your goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring training for each of my Olympic Games, my coach’s words of encouragement, and the unwavering support of the entire nation, were a huge part of my motivation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cWhatever your goals are, we wanted to be part of the Team Talk to inspire you to get there \u2013 just like the way our coaches inspired us.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat’s why I’ve teamed up with Team GB partner, NatWest, and a whole load of other incredible athletes \u2013 so whatever your goals are, you have the motivation to strive for the finish line.\u201d<\/p>\n
The research also found 56 percent of those polled said improving their financial situation is what motivates them most in life.<\/p>\n
And a spokesman from NatWest, Team GB’s banking partner, added: \u201cWe\u2019re hoping to inspire people across the nation to both come together to support the team, as well as get going to reach their own goals.<\/p>\n
