Back to Black, a Sam Taylor-Johnson directed biopic on the legendary Camden-born star Amy Winehouse, saw the late singer\u2019s estranged parents reuniting to help the film\u2019s production.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
In particular, Amy\u2019s dad Mitch Winehouse met with many of the leading cast to help with their character development and weigh in on the project in general.<\/p>\n
While most of the first meetings went off without a hitch, Juliet Cowan revealed she had a more emotional start.<\/p>\n
The actress, who plays Amy\u2019s mum and Mitch\u2019s ex-wife Janis Winehouse, shared with Daily Express: \u201cThe first time I met Mitch he cried, when I was dressed up as Janis.\u201d<\/p>\n
Amy\u2019s parents divorced when she was just nine years old. She grew up living with her mother while visiting her father and his girlfriend-turned-wife Jane in Essex on the weekends.<\/p>\n
READ MORE: <\/strong>This Morning fans have one-word complaint as Amy Winehouse biopic chat misses key topic<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Power star took this as a good omen, saying it was one of her favourite behind-the-scenes moments and the interaction with Mitch \u201cmeant a lot to me\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Looking every bit the celebrity she is at the film\u2019s London premiere earlier this week, the 49-year-old explained that one of her priorities in the role was nailing Janis\u2019 look.<\/p>\n She shared: \u201cIt\u2019s really important, especially if you\u2019re playing somebody that\u2019s alive, really important to honour them physically. What they look like, sound like.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite her clear connection and work behind the hard-earned role, Juliet wasn\u2019t expecting to be a part of Back to Black at all as she had initially just joined the project to read with actresses auditioning for Amy.<\/p>\n DON’T MISS: <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n She revealed: \u201cI was there when they first auditioned Marisa (Abela), because I read in for her granny.<\/p>\n \u201cWe sat down, she read and sang, and we all kind of went; \u2018This is Amy\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t think I\u2019d be in the film but then they were like; \u2018Oh yeah, we want you to be the mum,\u2019 I was like \u2018oh okay!\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n While the film has come under scrutiny, even before its release, Juliet has some very simple hopes for audiences, that they will walk away feeling \u201clike they\u2019ve spent two hours with Amy and see how much love she had\u201d.<\/p>\n Back to Black releases in cinemas on April 12.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n[ad_2]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [ad_1] Back to Black, a Sam Taylor-Johnson directed biopic on the legendary Camden-born star Amy Winehouse, saw the late singer\u2019s estranged parents reuniting to help the film\u2019s production.
