{"id":31662,"date":"2024-03-14T11:14:24","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T05:44:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/farratanews.online\/north-koreas-kim-drives-new-tank-during-mock-battle\/"},"modified":"2024-03-14T11:14:24","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T05:44:24","slug":"north-koreas-kim-drives-new-tank-during-mock-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farratanews.online\/north-koreas-kim-drives-new-tank-during-mock-battle\/","title":{"rendered":"North Korea\u2019s Kim \u2018drives\u2019 new tank during mock battle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit_1500w\/rockcms\/2024-03\/20240513-gop-speakers-sj-1131p-d9eb6c.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"\">SEOUL, South Korea \u2014 North Korean leader Kim Jong Un guided a military demonstration involving a new battle tank, state media KCNA reported Thursday, in the latest show of force by the isolated state as South Korea and the United States wrapped up joint drills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Kim expressed \u201cgreat satisfaction\u201d that the new type of main battle tank successfully demonstrated its striking power in its first performance display on Wednesday, KCNA said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The \u201ctraining match\u201d was designed to inspect the combat capabilities of tank crews and make them familiar with combat action on different tactical missions, it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cSwiftly weaving their way through various worst combat circumstances, heavy tanks hit targets at once with powerful strikes and broke through strong defense lines with high maneuverability,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The 105th Tank Division, which was declared the winner of the mock battle, was the unit that occupied the South Korean capital, Seoul, during the Korean War, KCNA said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Kim was joined at the event by senior officials, including Defense Minister Kang Sun Nam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In a photograph published by KCNA, the leader of the reclusive state could be seen with his head peeking out of a tank as state media reported he drove the tank himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Other photographs showed Kim sporting a leather jacket and surrounded by troops, and also tanks with the North Korean flag blasting ammunition on a field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The mock battle comes as joint\u00a0annual drills\u00a0involving South Korea and the U.S. were due to wrap up on Thursday. The drills, known as the Freedom Shield exercises, were the first to take place since Pyongyang scrapped a 2018 inter-Korean military pact aimed at de-escalating tensions in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">As part of the drills, South Korea\u2019s army said the combined forces had conducted a joint live-fire exercise at a training base in the city of Pocheon in the past week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The live fire drill featured tanks and armored cars as well as FA-50 fighter jets, the army said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">North Korea has long condemned such military drills as rehearsals for war, while Seoul has portrayed the exercises as purely defensive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Kim\u2019s appearance at the demonstration comes after he guided an\u00a0artillery firing drill\u00a0by the Korean People\u2019s Army, the country\u2019s military force, last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmark\">The drill involved units near the border that are in firing range of \u201cthe enemy\u2019s capital,\u201d KCNA said, referring to Seoul, which has nearly 10 million residents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[ad_2]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1] SEOUL, South Korea \u2014 North Korean leader Kim Jong Un guided a military demonstration involving a new battle tank, state media KCNA reported Thursday, in the latest show of force by the isolated state as South Korea and the United States wrapped up joint drills.
