Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy director James Gunn is about to reboot the DC movie franchise as co-CEO of DC Studios over at Warner Bros.<\/p>\n
Next year, Superman: Legacy will kick off the DCU\u2019s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and the production is about to start filming.<\/p>\n
Gunn has posted a selfie from the studio lot with the main cast including Man of Steel star David Corenswet, Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult and Lois Lane actress Rachel Brosnahan.<\/p>\n
The filmmaker captioned his Instagram post: \u201cAfter the table read with the\u00a0Superman\u00a0cast.<\/p>\n
\u201cEve, Mr. Terrific, Superman\/Clark, Otis, Lex, producer Peter Safran, Jimmy, Metamorpho, Lois, Hawkgirl, me, Guy, The Engineer all together for the first time! What a wonderful day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Gunn has previously teased that this Superman movie will be set in a DC universe where other superheroes already exist.<\/p>\n
He previously shared: “Superman: Legacy\u00a0tells the story of Superman\u2019s journey to reconcile his\u00a0Kryptonian\u00a0heritage with his\u00a0human\u00a0upbringing as Clark Kent of\u00a0Smallville,\u00a0Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the\u00a0American\u00a0way, guided by human kindness in a\u00a0world\u00a0that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the new Superman chest emblem was spotted at the table read and teases the plot’s comic book inspiration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Hawkgirl actress Isabela Merced revealed the Superman: Legacy logo from the table read and it\u2019s the same chest emblem as the one worn by Clark Kent in DC Comics\u2019 Kingdom Come storyline.<\/p>\n
The 1996 miniseries is set in an alternative future where a new generation of superheroes now have more in common with the villains they fight. As a result, the old guard Justice League return to take them on.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It\u2019s unlikely that the new movie will be a direct adaptation, but considering Gunn\u2019s synopsis above, it sounds like inspiration will be taken at the very least.<\/p>\n
