A woman was branded “cheap and tacky” after charging her friends and family £50 to attend her wedding.

The woman’s friend took to Reddit to ask people on the platform whether they thought it was right to ask guests to cover wedding costs.

She said: “One of my closest friends is getting married and is charging her guests to attend the wedding. I always knew she was cheap, so in one way I’m not surprised.”

The invitation required attendees to pay £50 if they were accepting an RSVP, and it did not even state what guests were paying for.

She said: “It doesn’t even say what the fee is for but after googling it says it includes, food, music, decorations and venue. So they literally want their guests to pay for decorations.”

If guests chose to stay at the venue, they would also need to fork out an extra £80.

The friend said that the additional cost of a gift would set her back around £300 to attend her friend’s wedding.

She added: “The thing is, I KNOW they have money, she inherited a lot of money from her grandma in advance, they have a house, her fiancé is an engineer, they have a boat, and they are currently renovating their house.

“I also suspect that they actually can afford both the renovation and the wedding, but they are probably just trying to play it smart and make the guests contribute because as I said, I’ve always known she’s cheap.”

People responded to the friend’s post, slating the bride for being ‘cheap’ about her wedding.

One user said: “Ask her if you can not pay, but still come to the reception if you bring your own dinner and promise not to look at any of the decorations. That should be fair, right? This is so beyond tacky and tasteless. I hope she gets roasted for it.”

Another added: “I would send my regrets and my congratulations and that’s it. The bride is out of her freaking mind.”

Meanwhile a third said it was customary for guests to pay for a wedding, but there would be no additional gift required.

They said: “The gift is almost always cash, and it’s used to pay for what is usually a lavish wedding. But that’s it, you don’t give any other presents and nobody directly asks you for money.”

[ad_2]
