{"id":12269,"date":"2023-11-22T04:45:58","date_gmt":"2023-11-21T23:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/farratanews.online\/los-angeles-man-34-identified-as-the-pedestrian-killed-by-chp-officer-on-freeway\/"},"modified":"2023-11-22T04:45:58","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T23:15:58","slug":"los-angeles-man-34-identified-as-the-pedestrian-killed-by-chp-officer-on-freeway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/farratanews.online\/los-angeles-man-34-identified-as-the-pedestrian-killed-by-chp-officer-on-freeway\/","title":{"rendered":"Los Angeles man, 34, identified as the pedestrian killed by CHP officer on freeway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit_1500w\/rockcms\/2023-11\/231120-105-freeway-shooting-ew-446p-887692.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"\">LOS ANGELES \u2014 A 34-year-old man was identified Tuesday as the person walking on an interstate \u2014 and who officials say was armed with a stun gun \u2014 before he was fatally shot by a California Highway Patrol officer, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Los Angeles resident Jesse Dominguez died at a hospital after the confrontation with law enforcement Sunday, according to a Los Angeles County coroner&#8217;s report, though his cause of death has not been formally disclosed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The name of the CHP officer involved in Sunday&#8217;s shooting had not  been disclosed as of Tuesday afternoon. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The confrontation unfolded a little after 3 p.m. as a portion of Interstate 105 in Los Angeles County was shut down following 911 calls of a man walking on the freeway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Video circulating on social media appeared to show the CHP officer tussling with the man on the pavement before shooting him at close range.\u00a0The man had used a stun gun on the officer, who then opened fire, according to the CHP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A use-of-force expert said the officer could\u2019ve reasonably viewed a stun gun or Taser to be nearly as dangerous as any firearm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A stun could \u201ccould cause a grave and immediate threat to anyone\u201d and \u201cyou don\u2019t want an officer being stunned and his weapon taken away,\u201d said former California police officer and sheriff\u2019s deputy Ed Obayashi. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Obayashi is regularly asked by law enforcement agencies to investigate officer-involved shootings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Obayashi did question why the officer confronted the man one-on-one when the freeway had been cleared and there didn\u2019t appear to be anyone in immediate danger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe problem is, if I got distance between an individual with a stun gun and myself, then there\u2019s an opportunity to de-escalate, an opportunity to retreat,\u201d\u00a0Obayashi said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThat side of the 105 was shut down so there\u2019s no danger to anyone. My question would be what compelled this officer to approach this individual?&#8221; he said. &#8220;There\u2019s a zillion cops here so I don\u2019t know why this cop was by himself and approaching this individual?
