The exit marked a \u201csolemn day,\u201d the North Georgia Conference of the UMC said in a\u00a0news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The United Methodist Church has long debated its bans on same-sex marriages and the ordination of openly LGBTQ+ clergy. The denomination forbids the marriage or ordination of \u201cself-avowed, practicing homosexuals,\u201d but some U.S. churches and clergy have defied the bans.
