Tesco, Lidl and Co-op issue urgent food warnings

[ad_1]

Three major supermarkets have been caught up in recent food recalls prompted by the presence of undeclared allergens.

Several food items were recalled by Tesco, Lidl and Co-op this week, which means those who purchased them could be entitled to a refund.

Various sweet treats including a meal deal snack bar and cupcakes were identified to contain allergens such as soya that are not listed on the packaging.

Advice from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to people who have purchased any of the affected products is to avoid eating them and, instead, return them unopened to the store where they got them.

No receipt is required to receive a full refund and retailers have issued apologies to customers for the inconvenience.

Tesco

The supermarket has recalled its Tesco 18 Cupcakes because some packs have been mispacked with Tesco 12 Party Cupcakes that contain soya, which is not mentioned on the label.

According to the FSA, this means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.

Lidl

Lidl has issued an urgent warning to its customers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland not to eat tartlets that contain soya.

Though the allergen has been labelled on the packaging, it has not been emphasised in bold font on the ingredients list.

Co-op

The Fairtrade retailer issued an allergy alert after some batches of its Brookies bars were found to include “undeclared milk”.
