A woman says she woke up confused and in a new country after accusing her boyfriend of allegedly “kidnapped” her while she was sleeping – but he told her he was “trying to be romantic”.
Taking to Reddit, the 28-year-old anonymous woman wrote: “Me and my boyfriend, 31, have known each other for about a year and been official almost immediately since.
“Due to circumstances we don’t have our own places so we use the car a lot for roadtrips but also to just watch movies.
“So, one day we were watching a movie and I fell asleep. We watch movies in the back seat obviously.”
But that’s when things got weird, she said, after waking up “in another country”.

She wrote: “When I woke up, we were in another country.
“When he told me it sounded so ridiculous that I thought I was still dreaming. We got in a huge fight and I accused him of kidnapping me and even suggested that he may have drugged me, because I’ve never been asleep for that long in a car.
“He’s saying he was trying to be romantic and that I’m being dramatic. The car ride home was a mix of restarting the fight and angry silences.”
She asked other Redditors for advice on whether she should break up with him.
One commented: “The fact that you’ve accused him of kidnap and drugging you speaks volumes about your relationship and it suggests you don’t trust your boyfriend as a safe person.
“If you were in a loving relationship there’s no way you’d even consider the idea of your boyfriend would drug you and that you’d assume malice in his actions.”
Another said: “If you reject his explanation and think he kidnapped you why is this even a question? Yes, you break up with someone that kidnapped you.”
Meanwhile, another disagreed, writing: “Not to assume but are you American? As a Brit who was raised in Spain and currently lives in another EU country, I can totally see how he could see this as a romantic trip, a drive can be as little as 2h to cross boarders… less than to cross state lines in most cases.”
