Back in 2019, Warner Bros took a gamble on a pitch for a Joker solo movie by The Hangover director Todd Phillips.
The result was a 1980s Martin Scorsese movie-inspired art house thriller with a budget of around $55 million.
Joker ended up being a phenomenal success. Critically acclaimed, Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor Oscar and the movie made over $1 billion, becoming the first R-rated movie to do so.
Joker 2 was inevitable and the Batman villain star and director are back with the sequel called Joker: Folie à Deux later this year.
This time around Lady Gaga joins the cast as Harley Quinn in what is teased as a musical psychological thriller.
Phillips has released the new pictures of his Joker and Harley Quinn from the sequel for Valentine’s Day, captioning the post: “Hoping your day is full of love. 10.4.24.”
Among the excitable fans in the comments, one asked the director: “When is the trailer coming?????” He replied: “Been getting this question a lot. The movie comes out in October. So our first teaser won’t be out until mid April.”
Joker: Folie à Deux hits cinemas on October 4, 2024.
