‘I proposed to my boyfriend… and he said yes’ – but some think it’s weird

“Whatever you do, it’ll be memorable,” Carys said, who is the embodiment of how views on marriage proposals are shifting.

The luxury engagement jeweller Queensmith revealed how attitudes have changed over the years as more women would consider proposing to their partners.

Queensmith found in its Instagram survey that 36 percent of female respondents would propose anytime, any year, despite social traditions.

Having done so herself, Carys told Express.co.uk that she and Harry, 33, were together for three years before she asked Harry to marry her.

Carys had booked Harry a microlight flight experience for his birthday, which turned into a surprise engagement.

Harry recalled: “Carys booked me a microlight flight experience as a birthday present, which is something I had been wanting to do for ages.

“When I was on my return flying over our house, I saw ‘MARRY ME?’ on a few large tarps pinned into the garden.

“Obviously I couldn’t say yes to her at the time because I was in the air, but the pilot heard me say ‘of course!’ because I was so excited.

“What made the surprise even better, was that it was so memorable and personal. The intention and message felt so special.”

Harry crystallised that he’s a big supporter of women proposing to their man.

“We always discussed how we both would like to be ‘proposed to’ rather than it being just one of our decisions,” he said.

“If you’re feeling it then why wait for someone else to do it for you?” he queried.

Carys said in the moment she felt “really nervous” but “it was a given Harry would say yes”.

Asked what Harry thought of the role reversal, Harry said: “We’re definitely not subscribed to any idea of gender roles or stereotypes in that sense.”

And it would seem the shift in attitude is becoming more commonplace. Reddit users rushed to the social network platform in support of women proposing to men.

“I personally see no problem,” said one, while another added: “I think it’d be awesome.”

Some, however, aren’t so keen, with one Reddit commentator saying: “It’s kind of weird.” In agreement, one said: “I prefer traditional methods.”
