Gorgeously unique Irish girls’ name growing in popularity, data shows

A unique Irish name for girls is seeing a big jump in popularity.

The Irish Central Statistics Office has shared the most popular baby names in Ireland in 2023. They also showed which names are becoming more popular and which ones are less liked. 

The girl’s name that had the biggest rise in 2023 compared to the year before is Siofra. Siofra is a beautiful Irish name for girls with a very different and unusual meaning.

The other three names that became much more popular in 2023 in Ireland compared to 2022 are Lucia, Lottie, and Zara.

Ireland clearly still really likes its traditional names. The most liked Irish name for boys in 2023, and the fourth most-liked name overall, was Rian.

Rian is a powerful Irish name meaning ‘little king’. On the other hand, the most popular Irish name for girls in Ireland last year was Fiadh. It was only surpassed by Grace, which took the top spot on the list.
