Gardening expert shares 5 mistakes – one ‘destroyed’ her cabbage

Pulling rosemary from a random bush 

Kia said she saw a head of rosemary on the side of the road, and figured she could propagate the plant. She placed it in water when she got home, but it never grew new buds. 

It eventually just died. 

Not using a bug net early enough in the summer

Garden netting can help keep pests away from your plants. Kia said she didn’t bring out the net early enough in the summer, so cabbage moths ate most of her cabbage. 

“The cabbage moth came and absolutely destroyed my garden. Next summer I’m using a net,” she said. 

Choosing a plant that requires something you don’t have

Kia said she really wanted to grow flowers, so she chose ranunculus corms. The only issue – she doesn’t have an area in her yard that gets prolonged sunlight. 

Because the seeds were mainly in the shade, she never saw the flowers bloom. 

Planting potatoes too early 

Potatoes should be planted in early spring, like March, April or May. If you plant them too early, they may not have healthy growth or may not grow at all. 

Kia planted them in the winter, so they were a wasted batch.
