The Fantastic Four have not had a great run at the cinema, with both iterations by 20th Century Fox being panned by the critics.
Nevertheless, now that Disney has the rights the MCU can finally do Marvel’s First Family right.
We were treated to a fan-cast variant of Mr Fantastic played by John Krasinski in last year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
But he was swiftly killed off and it’s clear that Marvel Studios have plans for an all-new Fantastic Four, with their upcoming MCU debut set for release in February 2025.
Prior to the Hollywood actors’ strike, rumours were swirling around the likes of Adam Driver, Matt Smith and Jake Gyllenhaal for Reed Richards, while Margot Robbie and Emma Stone came up for Sue Storm.
However, it now looks like the finalised team is set to be officially announced very soon.
Deadline report that Star Wars’ The Mandalorian lead Pedro Pascal is in talks to bag Mr Fantastic, with social media leakers claiming it’s already a done deal.
Meanwhile, respected scooper Jeff Sneider corroborated this and claimed that Mission Impossible’s Vanessa Kirby is “widely tipped” to be cast as Mrs Fantastic aka Invisible Woman.
On top of that, Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn is expected to be cast as Johnny Storm aka Human Torch and The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm aka the Thing.
As for Fantastic Four’s villain, James Bond villain star Javier Bardem is “the frontrunner” to play Galactus. And Antonio Banderas is also in the running for the part.
Meanwhile, in other Marvel news, Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has stepped down from helming 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The reason given is that he will be focused on the Disney+ Wonder Man series and Shang-Chi 2.
Fantastic Four is set to hit cinemas on February 14, 2025.
