Bruce Springsteen’s mother – known to fans for often joining him on stage to dance – has died aged 98.
The US rocker paid tribute to Adele Springsteen on Instagram, posting a video of them dancing together in a garden.
He said she died on Wednesday and quoted the lyrics from The Wish, a song he previously wrote about her.
“I remember in the morning mom hearing your alarm clock ring,” he posted.
“I’d lie in bed and listen to you getting ready for work, the sound of your makeup case on the sink.
“And the ladies at the office all lipstick, perfume and rustling skirts, how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work.”
The 74-year-old musician signed off: “I’ve got my hot rod down on Bond Street, I’m older but you’ll know me in a glance.
“We’ll find us a Little rock ‘n roll bar and we’ll go out and dance.”
The cause of Adele Springsteen’s death was not immediately revealed.
But the star’s mother, who was a legal secretary for many years, had been living with Alzheimer’s for more than a decade.

In 2021, he told a Broadway audience the disease was taking its toll but that she still appeared to recognise him.
“She can’t speak. She can’t stand. She can’t feed herself,” said Springsteen – according to US site Today.
“But when she sees me, there is always a smile. Still a smile. And there’s still a kiss.
“And there’s a sound which she makes when she sees me. It’s just the sound but I know it means ‘I love you’.”
She was best known for joining her son for fan favourite Dancing In The Dark.
However, she continued her on-stage cameos in later life, appearing during Twist And Shout at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium in 2012.
Age 90, in March 2016, the mother and son rocked out again during Ramrod at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
