Barclays confirms 16 more bank closures in months – see if your branch is on the list | Personal Finance | Finance

Barclays has announced plans to close an extra 16 branches by the end of March 2024.

The closures will take place in early 2024 – in February and March.

Customers relying on stores in Eltham, Cobham, and Liscard were among those expected to either go online or head to their second-nearest branch.

It means Barclays will be closing almost 200 bank branches across 2023 and 2024, according to MoneySavingExpert.

A statement on Barclays’ website reads: “Our branch network and the colleagues who work in them remain a vital part of what we offer our customers.

“Yet with customers visiting our branches less and less each year, we must constantly assess how and why our branches are used and make decisions based on that insight.

“There will be times when this means that we will make the difficult decision to close a branch.”

Barclays is pursuing a more “flexible” approach to reach customers, with Barclays Local sites and banking pods to still bring face-to-face support in areas where footfall has reduced.

There are 200 pop-up banking sites across the country, including in community centres and libraries.

People could deposit cash or cheques at their local post office, as well as withdraw money.

Under the new model, the bank works with local councils and communities to arrange a presence in places such as town halls and libraries, offering in-person banking support.

Barclays Local colleagues are there to provide in-person assistance, helping customers with their everyday finances and money management needs.

Each Barclays Local also offers free digital skills workshops and fraud and scams awareness events for the community.
