American ‘shocked’ by unexpected feature of UK and it’s serious downsides

[ad_1]

An American woman who made the move to the UK from Florida, who goes by Traveling With Kristin on Social Media, has shared some major differences she noticed between the US and UK after spending some time on the other side of the pond.

“I love the UK but there’s definitely something that shocked me when I got here,” Kristin said in a YouTube video.

She noted that people are very friendly in Northern England, to an overwhelming amount. Despite being friendly, she remarked that people are very blunt and straightforward in restaurants. For instance, they send their food back with no remorse if it wasn’t right and can be critical of it.

“The eggs are too cold, the bread wasn’t toasted enough. But it’s not like they’re complaining. It’s just that they’re being very assertive. Whereas people do that in the United States as well, I think we’re more likely to just kind of suck it up and I’ll just eat it anyway.

“Or everyone else has their food so they don’t want to send it back.”

She was also shocked at how safe she feels in the UK, sharing: “Not only are there no wild animals out to get you, but you don’t have to worry about guns.”

“And even being out in parks and trails by yourself, that can be very dangerous in the US. And I would never feel comfortable hiking by myself there, but here I do,” Kristin said.

“And people say in my neighborhood you don’t have to lock the door here. And that’s definitely not the case in Florida, so that has been shocking in the best way.”

She added that she was shocked about how good the food tastes in the UK. She mentioned that she found out how the UK is one of the Top 10 countries in the world with the highest food quality standards.

While this is a good thing, that means the food goes bad faster since there are fewer preservatives. In the US, Kristin says you can get away with grocery shopping once a week, but you can’t do that in the UK.
