ABBA’s Agnetha Faltskog’s first single in ten years is ‘a little underwhelming’ | Music | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Hopes were high. New music connected to Abba always excites us, but Agnetha Faltskog’s single – her first new music for ten years – is a little underwhelming.

Not bad, Where Do We Go From Here? is perfectly pleasant; it just falls short of the impossibly high standards set by the Swedish band’s classic hits like Dancing Queen and Waterloo.

The song, specially written for her by producer Jorgen Elofsson, starts slowly and acoustically, with Agnetha revealing ‘Outside I’m cold, but I’m burning inside.’

It’s not influenza that troubles her, though, just the timeless pull of love.

The pop legend quickly hits a summery midtempo groove before reaching the wistfully catchy chorus. ‘…it feels like I’m drowning,’ she sings.

‘Don’t let me go now, please hold me closer…’

It’s a well-made number, a definite grower with pleasing synthesisers and vocal distortion.

It’ll be the background to a thousand beach parties, and should hook her a new generation of fans.
