WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. It’s long been rumoured and now the big reveal has arrived at the end of Ahsoka episode 4.
Hayden Christensen has once again reprised his Anakin Skywalker in live-action, a year on from his return in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The cliffhanger saw Ahsoka waking up in the World Between Worlds, with her former Jedi Master greeting her with his nickname for her “Hello, Snips” before saying “I didn’t expect to see you so soon”.
Star Wars fans will know that Anakin trained Ahsoka as a Jedi during the events of The Clones Wars animated series, set between Episodes II and III.
However, he was never able to complete the training before turning to the Dark Side and becoming Darth Vader.
The last time Ahsoka encountered him was as Darth Vader in a duel that took place during the Star Wars Rebels animated show, which takes place before Episode IV: A New Hope.
Ahsoka is set after the events of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, so this is an Anakin Force ghost of sorts.
Although not in the traditional sense, given that they’re in the World Between Worlds, last seen at the end of Star Wars Rebels and he’s wearing different clothes.
The World Between Worlds is a Force plane that’s an entry point across space and time and can allow time travel.
As Screen Rant points out, Ahsoka has revealed this is also the Netherworld of the Force where the souls of Jedi go when they die, although some return as Force ghosts.
This implies that Ahsoka has entered this Star Wars afterlife of sorts, at least temporarily to be given advice from Anakin.
Ahsoka is streaming on Disney+.
