Eight Costa Coffee cafes permanently shut their doors to the public all across the UK from Wigan, Greater Manchester, to Malvern, Worcestershire.
To be specific, Costa Coffee closed in Coliseum retail park in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire; Welch Way, Witney; Wigan town centre and Five Rise Shopping Centre in Bingley.
Additional cafe closures in 2023 took place in Church Street, Oakham; West Bridgford; Church Street, Malvern; and the high street in Worcester.
Now two more Costa Coffee cafes are set to close very shortly in 2024; could it be one near you?
On February 6, the Costa Coffee at Chiswick High Road, London, will close down for good.
Following in its footsteps will be Bruntsfield Place in Edinburgh, which will close its Costa Coffee store on February 14.
Elsewhere, Clintons – the card retailer – is one of the latest chains to cut down on its number of UK stores.
Retail Gazette confirmed Clintons faces “financial distress”, which is contributing to its demise.
Nowadays, more and more people are buying cards for family and loved ones online, rather than hunting them down in stores.
Back in December 2019, Clintons already closed 156 shops down and a further 38 stores are planned to be closed down, although the specific stores have not been named.
According to documents seen by The Times, Clintons’ store closures have been designed to “avoid insolvency”.
If a deal doesn’t save Clintons fairly soon, there will be “no option but to commence formal insolvency proceedings”.
Insolvency occurs when a business is not able to pay its creditors or meet its financial obligations, so all stores could potentially close down.
Also diminishing from the British high street is the much-loved bargain boozer Wetherspoons.
